Who is winning the Iowa Republican delegate count?
As far as delegate count, Ron Paul got the most bang for the buck in the Iowa caucuses 2012. Most of the news media mislead you to believe that Ron Paul came in 3rd, (yes in the straw polls, BUT) in reality, in a caucus, all that matters is number of delegates who personally commit to them in the Republican convention. The popular vote / straw poll is non-binding. The delegates may be tagged for one candidate by the party, but they can follow their conscience and vote for whomever they want. In Iowa so far, some estimate that Ron Paul got 7 delegates committed to him, Romney 7, Santorum 7. This reflects some measure of reality of the commitments by the delegates personally. CNN had this true count up on their politics page soon after Iowa. But, the mainstream media such as the AP and the New York Times, cover this up and make it look like Ron Paul has 0 delegates, based on what the party “wants.” or what the press wants. But this does not matter.
Also, THERE IS STILL MORE DELEGATE CHOOSING to go in the Iowa Republican delegate count.
The county delegates have now been chosen, and it is disproportionately Ron Paul backers who volunteered to be delegates. Now those county delegates go to the state convention and choose national delegates. And it looks like Ron Paul will get more delegates from Iowa than any of the press seems to admit. This is what happened in Nevada in 2008. When the Republican party at the party state convention in Reno saw that Ron Paul was going to have at least 3 delegates from Nevada, they walked out early and closed the convention! Not only that, they hid the Ron Paul ballots in the cashier cage in the Peppermill Casino, and this was found out 18 months later. This was a shame and a blight upon the Republican Party, and caused the party chair to lose her national senate election bid, and Harry Reid won again. Hopefully, this year the Republican Party brass will not cheat and lie and steal. Other sites have a better picture of theIowa Republican delegate count.
